Private Kindergarten by Treasures at Little Jewels gives Bloomington-Normal children the highest quality education needed to prepare for future years. Your child will be taught a similar curriculum to that used in the Unit 5 School District. Their lessons will be taught by a certified elementary teacher with over 20 years of experience with Pre-K/Kindergarten age students. Small class sizes will also ensure that each student receives the individual attention necessary to succeed.
Dates and Times
The first day of class will be Wednesday, August 18th, 2021. We plan on following the Unit 5 school calendar; however, we will NOT observe late start days. Visit our Private Kindergarten calendar for more information. We will begin each school day at 8:00 am and end at 2:15 pm.
We will be holding the class at our Oakland facility (near Ovation Theater). The students will meet in either the Baker room or the cafeteria currently being used as a classroom.
We will provide a morning snack and lunch for your child every day we are in session. An afternoon snack will be provided if your child is enrolled in our afterschool program.
We will have transportation to our other centers for before and after school care with limited space. This will be available only if there is room, or you are already registered for the afterschool program.
Full-Time Care for Days Off of School/Summer
If you are enrolled in afterschool care at one of our locations, your child will have a spot reserved for days off of school and for the summer program the following summer at that location. You will work with the director of curriculum and your center’s director to communicate when your child would attend those days and when they would not need care.
If you are not enrolled in the afterschool program, spots will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
At this time, our program is not accredited. We have spoken with both DCFS, Illinois State Board of Education, and Unit 5 to ensure our program is cohesive with the curriculum used in the Unit 5 school district. Our director of curriculum, April Steigerwald, has earned a degree in Elementary Education and has also worked in both school districts and with pre-kindergarten age children for over 20 years.
Little Jewels will provide some school supplies needed for the upcoming year. A list of items provided by the student is available upon enrollment. We plan on each child having their supplies kept separate from others to help prevent the spread of germs.
If Unit 5 School district closes down for inclement weather, Little Jewels will most likely still be open as we have been in the past. If Little Jewels is still open, we will proceed with class as usual.
Closures due to COVID-19
With everything that is happening in our world today, we never know what tomorrow will bring. But here’s our promise to you; just as we are asking you to commit to a full year, we promise to commit the same. Little Jewels does not plan on closing again if we have a choice. If for some reason, we are forced to close, we will plan on continuing lessons online as much as possible. At Little Jewels, one of our primary goals is to make sure our kids are ready to step into elementary school with confidence and an eagerness to learn.
